Nd:YAG Angioma Treatment

Nd: YAG

Cherry angiomas, also called senile angiomas or Campbell de Morgan spots, are common red skin growths that can appear on many areas of your body. Though harmless, angiomas can be unsightly, and many people seek options for removal. Fortunately, treatment of angiomas is easy with the Cutera xeo’s Nd:YAG laser system.

What are angiomas?

Cherry angiomas are so named because they look like tiny cherries attached to your skin. They range in size from a pinpoint to a quarter inch in diameter, colored bright red, and either oval or circular in shape. They can be even with your skin or slightly raised, and are most prevalent on the shoulders, arms, and torso. The exact cause of cherry angiomas is unknown, but may be genetic. The red color is the result of broken blood vessels beneath the skin, so avoid scratching or picking at them, as this may cause bleeding. Angiomas are more common at age thirty and up, and their size and number tends to increase with age. They are not a cause for concern unless they change appearance or bleed often. If these symptoms occur, consult a doctor immediately, as these may be signs of skin cancer.

How are angiomas removed?

Angiomas are easily addressed, thanks to the Cutera xeo’s Nd:YAG laser, which is specifically engineered to target vascular lesions. The laser’s wavelength targets the hemoglobin in the blood vessels beneath your skin, causing the blood to coagulate and the blood vessels to disappear. In the case of angiomas, the Nd:YAG targets the broken blood vessels that cause this skin impairment, causing the angioma to dissolve over a series of treatments. The results of each treatment session are subtle, so we recommend returning for four to six treatments spaced out over several weeks. The laser is totally painless, with only a gentle warming sensation, and there is no downtime, allowing you to return to normal activities immediately. The Nd:YAG is also highly effective against other types of benign vascular lesions such as facial and leg veins, warts, and scars, so consider treatments for these in addition to your angioma treatment. New angiomas will still appear, but these can be removed just as easily.
